The Visual Communications Program
is part of the Central Montco Technical High School,
Plymouth Meeting, PA - 610-277-2301

Overview
The Visual Communication program is three years in length. All new students are placed in the Foundation program in which they are introduced to the proper use of various art tools and fundamental art and design concepts. Additionally students in the Foundation program gain a working competency of such computer software as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.

During the second Level of the program, students continue to develop their computer skills. They are further required to apply these skills in formulating design solutions for problems such as those that might be encountered in a professional working environment. Digital photography is also a large part of the second year program.

In the third Level of the program, students identify a specific design field in which they wish to focus their studies and work toward developing a portfolio consistent with the requirements of their career choice of continuing education plans. These areas include Advertising Design, Illustration, Digital Media – Web and Animation and Photography and Video. There is continuing emphasis on drawing skills throughout all assignments at all levels.

Students must be prepared to make a major commitment. It is our assumption that students entering the program are here to lay a foundation for a career in a design field and will be required to meet rigorous and stringent standards. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required as is the ability to read and analyze. Serious students will find that the program will provide them with an excellent opportunity to develop the skills necessary to succeed in the job market or advance in education. Most of the students graduating from the program continue
their education.
